Pipeline extension to bring 80 jobs, new development to San Juan County
$3.9 million state investment opens La Plata corridor to industrial growth in northwest New Mexico
AZTEC, N.M. (May 19, 2026) — A 13-mile natural gas pipeline extension to the San Juan County Industrial Park near La Plata, New Mexico, is now complete, marking a major infrastructure milestone for economic development in northwest New Mexico.
The pipeline, supported by a $3.9 million Local Economic Development Act (LEDA) investment through Economic Development New Mexico (EDNM) in partnership with San Juan County, delivers reliable natural gas service to the industrial park and to homes and businesses along the route.
Industrial tenant Process Equipment and Service Company (PESCO) is now connected to the new pipeline and is in the process of adding approximately 80 jobs over the next year.
The project delivers reliable and affordable natural gas service to the industrial park, strengthening the region’s ability to recruit and retain industrial employers while improving the competitiveness of the Four Corners region.
“Modern infrastructure is essential to attracting employers and supporting industries that provide stable, well-paying jobs,” said EDNM Cabinet Secretary Rob Black. “Extending natural gas service to the industrial park gives companies the reliable energy they need to expand operations and invest in San Juan County.”
The San Juan County Industrial Park comprises 45 acres of property available for industrial development.
“This project opens the La Plata corridor for development that would not have been possible before,” said San Juan County Commission Chairman Sam Gonzales. “Partnerships like this are critical to creating opportunities for our communities and strengthening our local economy.”
In addition to supporting industrial tenants, the pipeline extension allows homes and businesses along the route to access natural gas service, expanding energy options for residents in the surrounding area.
“Access to reliable natural gas service is a game-changer for our operations,” said PESCO President and CEO Kyle Rhodes. “This extension gives us the consistent, cost-effective energy capacity we need to grow at the San Juan County Industrial Park.”
